The Waterboys - in concert in Salthill this Thursday

Mike Scott, Steve Wickham, and Ralph Salmins to play career spanning set

"PEOPLE SHOULD expect the unexpected from The Waterboys,” band leader Mike Scott declared recently. However as Stewart Lee recently noted at his comedy festival gig, the band can be expected to play 'Whole Of The Moon' as an encore.

However Stewart Lee also noted that the band have recently starting performing a Prince cover, 'How Long Will I Love You' in their shows. That is certainly unexpected - the Scottish raggle-taggle folk rock gypsies taking on a track by the Minneapolis funk-soul legend (indeed Prince has returned the favour covering 'Whole Of The Moon ), but it all ties back to Scott's point - expect the unexpected.

So while Galway audiences can look forward to songs from that magnificent trilogy of albums - This Is The Sea (1985 ), Fisherman's Blues (1988 ), and Room To Roam (1990 ) - at the Seapoint Ballroom, Salthill, on Thursaday October 29 at 8pm, The Waterboys will also play music from their latest album, Modern Blues.

Modern Blues, released at the start of this year, saw the band explore rock'n'roll and Southern soul, and to add to the authenticity, they recorded it in Nashville, along with respected Muscle Shoals' bassist David Hood, Austin guitarist Zach Ernst, and Memphis keyboardist Brother Paul, all of whom will be on stage in Galway along with Mike Scott, fiddler Steve Wickham, and drummer Ralph Salmins.

Support is from The Jimmy Cake. Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
