THE TULCA Festival of Visual Arts has launched a new education programme, T.Ed, looking at the changing environment, and so ties in with this year's festival theme of climate change.
T.Ed also focuses on reaching out and engaging with schools and colleges to create an increased awareness and a shared understanding of the visual arts. Through the festival artworks, T.Ed will also look at the issues of climate change and ecology. TULCA festival curator Mary Cremin said, "It will be an exciting opportunity for schools to discuss and engage their students with these issues and how they can in their way make small changes in their habits to create a better environment.”
TULCA takes place around Galway city from November 13 to 29. T.Ed events begin on Saturday November 14 at 12.30 with a free introductory tour followed by light brunch and chats in the Festival Gallery. Family events include the buggy friendly morning (Friday 20, 10.30am - 12 noon ) and the Going Green workshop for toddlers and parents (Wednesday 25, 10.30am - 11.30am ); and the Tomorrow’s World workshop for children on Sunday November 22.
There is a range of drop-in events throughout both weeks. Lunchtime Lite Bites (Wednesday 18 and 25, Friday 27 ) encourages people to escape the office and go to the Festival Gallery, where tea will be served; the gallery will also be open after work hours on Thursdays (5.45pm ) for a short tour; while The Wonder Walk (Saturday 21, 1pm ) is aimed at those unsure about contemporary art or curious to try something new.
