Medal haul for Galway judo clubs

•Galway city hosted its first All Ireland Judo Championships in 15 years last Sunday in the Galway Lawn Tennis Club. 

The event was a huge success with 199 entries into the many different categories including boys and girls, and senior men and women from all around Ireland. Galway clubs enjoyed a host of medal winners, including Damien Curry, Aaron Creaven, Elle Garrett, and Aibheen Hughes (Annaghdown ), Ciarán Weldon, Dermot Croke, Emma O’ Shea, and Aiobh O’ hEochach (Renmore ), Emma Costello, and Jordan Gibbons (Castlegar ), James Thornton and Dylan McDonagh (Lettermullen ), Dillon Griffin, Stephen McHenry, Conor Curran, and Lea Catunva-Guyon (Galway Judo Club ), and Eamon O’ Conláin (Spiddal ).

Other winners were John Gillane and Meadhbh Weldon (Renmore ), brothers Christopher and Andrew Kelly, and sisters Aoifeaine and Caoime Ní Laoi (Lettermullen ), and Michael Creaven (Annaghdown ).

In the senior men’s competitions John Folan, coach in Lettermullen, Stephen Bradshaw (NUIG ), Paul Curley (NUIG ), and Hubert Creaven (Annaghdown ), were gold medallists.
