Originating from Bradford, the first line up was formed by Chris Norman, Ron Kelly, and Alan Silson. In July 1975, after several name changes and recording contracts, Smokie had a top-five UK hit with ‘If You Think You Know How To Love Me’. Further success followed with 15 Top 20 hits, including ‘Living Next Door To Alice’, 'Don't Play Your Rock'n'Roll To Me', 'Lay Back in the Arms of Someone', and 'Mexican Girl, selling in excess of 40 million records worldwide. Tragedy struck in 1995 when vocalist Alan Barton died as a result of a bus crash. His son Dean now takes lead vocal duties in Spirit of Smokie.
