A €50,000 prize fund is on offer to Galway-based entrepreneurs in the sixth year of an innovative competition aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship and rewarding local enterprise. The sccul enterprise awards, launched on Monday night in the Institute for Lifecourse and Society, NUI Galway, is an initiative of community based company SCCUL Enterprises Ltd.
Businesses in Galway City and county are encouraged to enter in one of six categories including agriculture and food, arts, tourism and sport, business services, consumer goods and services, ICT and Social Enterprise. The competition is open to all businesses in Galway city and county with a turnover of less than €1.5 million.
The overall winner will be chosen from the winners of the six categories and will claim the first prize of €10,000 cash sponsored by SCCUL Enterprises Ltd, a specially commissioned trophy.
A new initiative this year is the SCCUL Enterprise Awards Bursary which is sponsored by St Columba’s Credit Union. This €5,000 cash prize is designed to support a local entrepreneur or not for profit organisation in facing the day to day challenges of the early years in business.
Supporting the SCCUL Enterprise Awards this year are a number of local business organisations who have come on board as sponsors of the individual awards categories. The six category sponsors are Collins McNicholas HR & Recruitment Group, Galway City Council, Galway County Council, Mazars and SSL Logistics.
Cash prizes of €1000, specially commissioned trophies and media promotional packages are on offer to winners in each of the six categories.
The student enterprise award category is open to students attending courses up to level 8 in third level institutions in Galway City and County. The student enterprise award has a prize fund of €2,000 sponsored by Winters Property Management with the winner receiving a top prize of €1250.
The prize winners will be presented with their awards at a special SCCUL Enterprise Awards prize giving ceremony and business expo hosted by NUI Galway in the Bailey Allen Hall on Friday January 29 2016.
