Quirky Acts for the comedy carnival

Tanylee Davis, Alan Anderson, and The Two Johns

A WOMAN only 3’ 6” tall, who calls herself, the Ferrari of comedy, "low to the ground and kinda racy"; a man known as the 'Whisky Comedian'; and The Two Johns, a duo of the extraordinary Terry Alderton and musician Johnny Spurling - Galway better get ready for them all.

Tanylee Davis, Alan Anderson, and The Two Johns will appear at the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway this month, and promise to be among the most quirky, oddball, innovative, and left-field acts at the festival.

Tanylee Davis' posters for the Edinburgh Fringe noted her image on the posters were 'actual size' and she has made a virtue of her small stature. There is far, far more to her than that, though. Her comedy has earned praise from critics, wowed audiences on The John Bishop Show, and her unique perspective and often risqué take on life is inspiring, enlightening, and hilarious, as Galway will see when she plays the Spiegeltent, Eyre Square, on Wednesday October 21 at 8pm, along with Ardal O'Hanlon, Phil Jupitus, and Al Porter.

Alan Anderson is a whisky connoisseur, always in search of that rare bottle. His show at the comedy carnival, Whisky For Dafties (The Blue Note, October 22 and 23, 6pm ) promises to be a hilarious hour of educational drinking, with participants able to sample malty, peaty beverages, while Alan explains the history, methodology and lore of this drink. Oh, and there will be laughs aplenty as well.

Galway audiences have already been won over by the unpredictable Terry Alderton - part lad of the terraces, part theatre darling, but always hilarious. With The Two Johns, Alderton’s John is über-camp, the other John has the proportions of Danny Devito, and together they bicker and argue through a surreal set of bizarre songs and patter. As the Evening Standard said, "‘they are a fine reminder that surrealism comes via Barrymore and Butlin’s as well as Dalí and the Footlights." The Two Johns will be among the acts in the Spiegeltent on October 24 (9.30pm ) and at the Róisín Dubh Comedy Clubh on October 25 (9pm ).
