Galway WFC and Peamount will meet again for the third weekend in a row, this time in Dublin for the first league game of the season.
Galway WFC manager Don O’Riordan will be hoping his squad can exert dominance for the entire 90 minutes to ensure it is a case of third time lucky.
Last Saturday evening in their first home game under lights in Eamonn Deacy Park Galway forced a 4-4 draw in a cracking fixture.
The game was only three minutes old when Lisa Casserly ran onto a Shauna Fox through ball and delightfully lobbed the advancing Naoisha McAloon in the Peamount goal.
However two minutes later Amber Barrett equalised for the visitors.
Galway began to dominate proceedings, and on 17 minutes Keara Cormican headed a Lynsey McKey free kick. The third goal came from another McKey free kick when Irish u-19 captain and Galway debutante Savannah McCarthy rose to put pressure on the defence - the final touch coming off a Peamount defender to leave the half time 3-1.
Just after the hour, following great link-up play between McCarthy and McKey, Casserly bagged her second of the day and Galway’s fourth. However, Peamount immediately responded with a goal from Sarah McKevitt.
Although Galway looked to be coasting to victory, as in the previous week’s game the final 10 minutes proved to be their downfall. On 81 minutes Claire Kinsella made it 4-3. Then in the final minute of normal time substitute Danielle Murray headed home in controversial circumstances. Despite the protests for the goal to be ruled out for offside, the goal stood and the spoils were shared.
