Ron Sexsmith to play Róisín Dubh

IN A career spanning 25 years and counting, Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith has won critical acclaim, built a loyal fanbase across the world, and earned the admiration of Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, and John Hiatt - the artists who inspired Sexsmith to become a musician.

Ron is coming to Galway to play the Róisín Dubh on Friday October 9 at 8pm, where he will perform songs from across his career, including tracks from his most recent album, Carousel One, released this year, and possibly his most upbeat record. “I didn’t realize until we were putting the songs together that this would be more outgoing, there's a lot more humour,” he says. "There’s even a smiling picture on the cover, which I’ve never had before. I just hope it doesn’t scare the children.”

The album has produced two singles - 'Can't Get My Act Together' and ‘Sure As The Sky’. Speaking about the former, Ron says it is about "being in a business that seems to tolerate never growing up. It's about disappointing the ones you love, but it's a straight up rocking kind of tune with a Kinks vibe." Of ‘Sure As The Sky' he says: "I was thinking of how Judy Collins did ‘Turn! Turn! Turn!’ before The Byrds had recorded it and how they went and turned it into something more anthemic."

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
