Pianist Finghin Collins in concert in October

MOZART AND Stravinsky will dominate the programme of an upcoming classical concert featuring one of Ireland's leading pianists Finghin Collins, accompanied by the Irish Chamber Orchestra, under director Katherine Hunka.

Collins and the ICO will be in the Black Box Theatre on Saturday October 10 at 8pm, performing Mozart's Symphony KV 196/121 from his comic opera La Finta Giardiniera, which he wrote aged only 18, and Symphony Nr 29 in A major K201; Stravinsky's Concerto in D, along side the Russian's abstract and daring 1953 piece, Septet; while Haydn's Piano Concerto Hob XVIII:11 in D major, with its dramatic contrasts, will also be performed.

Tickets are €20/16/10 through Music For Galway (091 - 705962, www.musicforgalway.ie ) or Opus 2, High Street. On Saturday October 24 in Leisureland, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra conducted by John O’Brien, will perform The John Williams Collection, featuring music from films such as Superman, Star Wars, Jaws, ET, and Schindler’s List.
