Maigh Cuilinn ladies have claimed this year's county junior A title in a high-scoring 7-17 to 4-8 final against Glinsk.
The success follows hot on the heels of back-to-back u-16 All Ireland Club Sevens' success, and Maigh Cuilinn will now progress to the Connacht Championship when they will face the Sligo champions on October 3.
Maigh Cuilinn, winners of last year's Junior B Championship, were first to score from a free by Shannon Keady after 47 seconds, but Glinsk were first to raise the green flag with a goal in the fourth minute.
Despite the loss of goalie Maria Burke in the 12th minute through injury, and having hit the crossbar and the upright, Maigh Cuilinn were 4-5 to 2-2 ahead after 20 minutes. Substitute goalie Roisin Ni Chonghaile pulled off a fantastic save, while Glinsk also missed a penalty deep in injury time.
Maigh Cuilinn led at the half by 5-7 to 3-4, but Glinsk were first to score after the resumption. However Maigh Cuilinn backs held Glinsk to 1-4 in this half, while their forwards notched 2-10 to claim the Westawake Wholesalers Perpetual Trophy.
