Galway WFC's flying start continues against Celtic

Galway WFC continued its flying start to the season on Saturday night in Castlebar, running out 2-7 winners over hosts Castlebar Celtic.

Galway went behind twice in the opening half - first to a Catherine Hyndman strike and then to an Amber Lynch shot. However, on both ccasions GWFC came back to equalise through headers from Lucy Hannon.

Hannon grabbed the opening score for Galway when she finished a Shauna Fox cross,  and for the second she got on the end of a Lisa Casserly corner.

It looked like both sides would head in level at half time, but five minutes before the break Celtic conceded  a penalty and Lynsey McKey converted low to the left.

The second half was all one-way traffic with McKey wrapping up her hat-trick on the hour mark, after scoring her second only two minutes before.  McKey then added a fourth, while substitute Sorcha Ní Bhraonáin  rounded off the scoring with Galway’s seventh of the evening.

Mananager Don O’Riordan will be happy with a return of 12 goals in the first three games of the season.

Galway WFC have a week break before facing into a triple header of games against Peamout United.
