Music for Galway launch new series of Lunchtime classical concerts

IRISH VIOLINIST Gina Maria McGuinness and Swiss pianist Maki Wiederkehr will perform the first concert in a new series of lunchtime shows, taking place in the Hotel Meyrick in Eyre Square.

The Music For Galway SAP Lunchtime Series opens on Thursday September 24 at 1.05pm, with McGuinness and Wiederkehr performing work by Schumann and Swiss composers Huber and Raff.

McGuinness won first prize at the International Violin Competition ‘Young Musician of Tallinn’, Estonia, aged 11. She later became a finalist at the Schöntal International Violin Competition in Germany. Now in her twenties, she has flourished into a rising classical talent, performing throughout Europe and the US. After graduating from high school in 2004, Wiederkehr studied violin, but changed to piano under Homero Francesch. In 2009 she obtained both her teacher's and concert diploma with distinction.

The SAP Lunchtime series is designed as a platform for young professional musicians just out of college, in his/her late twenties, or in need of performing opportunities to gain valuable experience. For more information see www.musicforgalway.ie
