Go Wild In Clarinbridge is a day of free events, taking place on Saturday September 19 from 10am, and continuing throughout the day, with all events related to the local natural environment.
A highlight of the day will be a guided walk in the Cow Park, described as a medieval meadowland, with well-known naturalist Gordon D’Arcy. The walk will last from 4pm to 6pm, and those taking part are asked to assemble at the Parish Hall.
Events begins at Gortard allotments with a ‘Wild Tea Party’ where Sylvia Moss, winner of Best Stall at the 2015 Clarinbridge Market Day, will demonstrate how to forage for herbs and make wild eta. The allotments will be open from 10am, with tea making from 11am to 12.15pm. At 12.30pm, there will be an indoor picnic at the Parish Hall. Tea and coffee will be provided plus music by local musicians (participation welcome ). Those going are advised to bring a packed lunch.
At 2pm Clare Griffin, well known for her historic talks, will introduce us to the 'Twelve Trees of Clarinbridge' in a village walkabout, discussing the different kinds of trees in the locality and how to differentiate between alder, Eeder, haw, and holly. At 7pm historian Joe Murphy will give an informal talk entitled Folklore on the Ground, detailing how landlords affected and shaped the natural environment on the Kilcornan Estate. The talk will be accompanied by photographs by award winning photographer Dave Ruffles.
The day concludes with local poet Susan Lindsay facilitating A Different Conversation. This will be a discussion workshop sparked by poems on a nature theme. Booking for this event is essential as places are limited. Further details and booking contact the Clarinbridge Arts Group on 086 - 8351230 or see Facebook.
