Now in its sixth year, the Bogman Two Day Cycle event will be held in north west Conamara this weekend, and is set to provide competitors with a challenging course over two days of exciting riding.
There will be two days of cycling, with cyclists on the road from 3.30pm to 6pm on Saturday, and 1pm to 3.30pm on Sunday. The cycling routes will take in Kylemore/Tullycross loop on Saturday, while Sunday will see them head further afield to Maam valley and back to Tullycross. The organisers ask the public to be aware of the cyclists along the road.
The winner of the Conamara Bogman Two Day Cycle Race will be presented with the beautiful and prestigious Gogarty Cup, sponsored by Renvyle House Hotel. New to this year's event is a polkadot jersey competition and a team prize.
Leo Hallissey, director of the Conamara Environmental Education and Culture Centre, said: “Not only will riders be assured of two days of exciting riding, but they will be made feel especially welcome in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland.”
Ronnie Counihan, general manager of Renvyle House Hotel, said: "We are delighted to sponsor Conamara Bog Week and especially the bike races as the founder of Renvyle House Hotel, Oliver St John Gogarty, was not only a leading literary figure but also a first class cyclist."
The race is also sponsored by Eamonn Marrey of Marrey Bikes, Ballinrobe. Marrey has been a sponsor of the event for the last number of years and will be on hand to present the jerseys on Sunday evening at the Marian Hall, Tullycross. Other sponsors include Rogan’s Gala, Connemara Fisheries, The Lodge Letterfrack, and Paddy Coynes of Tullycross.
