Renowned fine artist Jim Kavanagh will exhibit his collection of cosmologically inspired works, from August 22 to September 12 at the Market Street Gallery, with proceeds from the event going towards COPE Galway.
Kavanagh is an established artist living and working near Galway city with a career spanning nearly 30 years. After numerous successful shows in both the UK and Ireland, as well as having his work in private collections in four continents, in 2001 Kavanagh moved to the west of Ireland.
Speaking about his upcoming exhibition, Kavanagh said: "This is a large gallery space (ex Connacht Tribune Printing Works ) and an exciting challenge for me as an artist. Every exhibition I stage, I want to use it as a platform to raise awareness, and give something back to the community, so I choose a local charity.
"For this exhibition, money raised from the sale of works, catalogues, and posters will be donated to COPE Galway, to help fund the organisation's new Domestic Violence Refuge Building in Galway. This has been an interesting project as it involves three strands: an artist and his work, crowd funding (Fund it ), and a charity."
Money raised from crowd funding has allowed the project to go ahead, and the artist to achieve his goal of exhibiting. COPE Galway works towards a vision of improving the quality of life for people affected by homelessness, women and children experiencing domestic violence, and older people in our local community.
The Cosmological Sublime exhibition will take place in the Market Street Gallery from August 22 to September 12, open daily from 11am to 7pm (closed on Mondays ). A private view reception evening will take place on September 4 from 6pm to 8pm, where music, drinks, and nibbles sponsored by Tigh Neachtain will be on offer. All are welcome.
