Galway’s Indian community will celebrate the 69th Indian Independence Day on Saturday.
Indian families and friends living in Galway will host a celebration event at Presentation Primary School, Lower Newcastle Road, Galway, from 2pm to 6pm, organised by the newly-formed Indian Cultural and Sports Community.
Sixty-eight years since India achieved independence from Britain, the celebrations will also commemorate the people who sacrificed their lives during the fight for independence and the spirit spread by Mahatma Gandhi of his great non-violence movement across the globe.
The programme includes children and adult performances, singing, face painting, prize ceremony, and food courts.
This event is free and everyone is welcome. Food available to purchase includes Dosa (Indian saviour crepe ), spicy chutneys and Indian Chaat.
Members of the ICSC will be joined by the Indian SOC, NUI Galway, and Galway Indian Cultural Community (GICC ), in addition to Indian communities from Tuam, Loughrea and Ennis, and Irish friends.
