A man who stole a television from Dunnes Stores and sold it on to have money for Christmas was remanded on bail for a year to see how he behaves himself in the meantime, following his appearance before Galway District Court this week.
James Campbell, 103 Tirellan Heights, Headford Road, Galway, pleaded guilty to stealing a €349 television from Dunnes Stores, Edward Square, Galway on December 20 last.
Inspector Ernie White said the accused was arrested after admitting he committed the offence but the television was never recovered.
Judge Eamon O’Brien asked Campbell where was the television now, to which the accused replied that he had sold it on after stealing it to have money for Christmas.
Judge O’Brien asked Campbell if he had compensation in court and he shrugged his shoulders and said “No”.
Judge O’Brien said he would adjourn the matter until July 6, 2009, to see if Campbell behaved himself in the meantime. He gave the State liberty to re-enter the charge if Campbell “stepped out of line” in the meantime.
