JOHN GRANT will now headline the Galway International Arts Festival Big Top concert in the Fisheries Field this evening after Sinéad O'Connor was forced to pull out due to illness.
O'Connor was due to headline the event with American singer-songwriter Grant as support. However on Tuesday evening, the show's organisers, the GIAF and the Róisín Dubh, announced "with regret" the change. The following statement was issued by Sinéad O'Connor's agent:
“Sinéad O'Connor apologises profusely to her fans but she cannot travel this summer anymore," a statement read. "She is suffering from exhaustion due to an existing not resolved medical situation and she has been advised by the doctor to stop any activity and rest. Because of this she is completely unable to travel and to perform."
While the GIAF and the Róisín Dubh said they were "hugely disappointed at this news and wish Sinéad a speedy recovery", they also announced that the show would go ahead, with the critically acclaimed John Grant now headlining with the Sharon Shannon Big Band as the special guests.
The GIAF and the Róisín Dubh said they "apologise we cannot proceed with the original bill as planned but hope our audiences enjoy the new line up". They added that by way of a 'Thank You' each person attending will receive a complimentary drinks voucher for the Festival Big Top Bar, in addition to a €10 Festival Voucher redeemable against the Festival Big Top 2016 pProgramme.
