Footballers drawn with Armagh away

The Galway footballers have been drawn away to Armagh next weekend, July 11/12, in round two of the All-Ireland football qualifiers.

The date and time of the game will be announced next Monday and it is not clear at this stage if the game will be played on either Saturday or Sunday.

Armagh,  the current division three league champions, defeated Wicklow last weekend at the Athletic Grounds by 2-17 to 2-7 with Jamie Clarke their top scorer with 2-4 from play.

Despite winning by 10 points, the reports from the game were that Wicklow were a lot closer to Armagh than the final result suggested, with both of Clarke’s goals coming in the last few minutes and Wicklow  guilty of shooting eight wides from frees.

Galway and Armagh met in round three of the qualifiers in Pearse Stadium two years ago with the home side victorious by five points. (1-11 to 0-9 ) – Danny Cummins scoring Galway’s goal.

Both counties have new managers since then, and both Kieran McGeeney and Kevin Walsh will be targeting a win to try to keep their championship run alive.

The other three ties in Round 2B are Tyrone and Meath, Tipperary and Louth, and Derry v Wexford.
