Macnas will take to the streets of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius tomorrow night where it will stage its street theatre show Whose Kingdom Is This Anyways?
The show, which is part of Lithuania's Culture Night, will feature an over the top, larger than life Queen, in a six foot wide, seven foot high dress, who wheels, reels and prances her way across Europe in search of a suitor, performed by Helen Gregg, Jonathan Gunning, Emma O'Grady, and Victoria McCormack. They will make their way from the Vilnius Cathedral to the City Hall.
The performance will mark the acclaimed Galway company's Lithuanian debut. "We are always excited to take shows to places Macnas has never been," said Macnas general manager Sharon O’Grady. "It helps to create ties, make friendships, and ultimately promote Macnas and Irish street an spectacle work."
Macnas artistic director Noeline Kavanagh believes the performance can also help in Galway's bid to become European Capital of Culture 2020. “It will be great for Macnas to be performing at a European Capital of Culture," she said. "As Galway is bidding for European Capital of Culture 2020, it’s a great connection and an ideal chance to promote our city."
