John C Reilly to appear at Galway Film Fleadh

Guardians of the Galaxy, Dewey Cox, and Anchorman 2 star to take part in public interview

JOHN C REILLY, the American actor best known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Anchorman 2, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Wreck It Ralph, and Chicago, for which he received an Oscar nomination, is coming to the Galway Film Fleadh.

John will be the subject of this year’s Fleadh Public Interview with Seán Rocks of RTÉ Radio 1's Arena, on Sunday July 12 at 3pm in the Town Hall Theatre, after which there will be a screening of Walk Hard.

As Imdb.com said: "Character actor, dramatic leading man, or hilarious comic foil? With an astonishing range of roles already under his belt, John C Reilly has played a eclectic host of rich characters to great effect over the years, from seedy ne'er-do-wells, to lovable, good-natured schlepps."

John was born in Chicago, to a father of Irish and Scottish descent, and a Lithuanian-American mother, and was brought up on Chicago's tough Southwest territory. He trained at the Goodman School of Drama and eventually became a member of Chicago's renowned Steppenwolf Theatre - a company which has a long relationship with Galway.

He made his film debut in Brian De Palma’s Casualties of War in 1989 where the director was so impressed during early filming that he re-cast Reilly in a bigger role. So began a movie career spanning 26 years and more than 70 performances. He has worked with directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson in films like Hard Eight and Magnolia and Terence Malick in The Thin Red Line. In 2002, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Chicago which, along with The Hours and Gangs of New York, all starring Reilly, were nominated for Best Picture that year. He has also enjoyed roles in hit comedies, like Anchorman 2, family movie Wreck-It Ralph, viral internet sketches like Prop 8: The Musical, and the blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Galway Film Fleadh runs from Tuesday July 7 to Sunday 12. The full programme of events will be revealed on Tuesday June 23. See www.galwayfilmfleadh.com
