Forty young Castle Park men did their county proud recently when they took part in a special soccer tournament at Mervue Pitch in memory of local teenager Dominick Curran.
The event was organised by Kevin Curran, Barry Connolly and Eric Connolly to heighten awareness of suicide in Ireland and raise much-needed funds for Console, the Galway based Bereaved by Suicide Foundation.
A spokesperson for Console said despite the terrible weather the players battled through mud and rain to give onlookers a memorable day out.
”Darvin Dowling was named Man of the Match with the prize sponsored by Martin O Neill. Local Galway businessmen, Mark Lally and Rob Wade, generously sponsored the jerseys.
“The evening closed with the announcement from organiser Kevin Curran that the tournament was going to be an annual event with funds raised going to Console. He acknowledged the work of Console nationally and especially in the Galway region. He thanked all present for their tremendous support for the tournament which was a huge success.”
Post match celebrations were held at O’Riordans in Oranmore with food and venue kindly sponsored by Michael Connolly.
