Where the cello will go Baroque

Joint Music For Galway/Galway Early Music Festival concert

MUSIC FOR Galway's successful cello season Cellissimo closes this weekend when MFG joins forces with the Galway Early Music Festival for a concert of Baroque music in St Nicholas' Collegiate Church.

The Cello Goes Baroque, this Saturday at 1pm, will see cellist Aoife NicAthlaoich and harpsichordist Yonit Kosovske, perform music that will be brilliant, tender, or decadent, but all spirited and evocative of sounds birthed 300 years ago. The programme is Geminiani's Sonata in D minor, H 104; Triemer's Sonata in A major, no 2, Barrière's Sonata No 3 in E minor, Book 4; and Telemann's Sonatain D major, No 16 TWV 41:D6.

Dubliner Aoife NicAthlaoich plays period instruments and newly-commissioned works. She has performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the Irish Baroque Orchestra, and is a member of the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Yonit Kosovske has performed as a soloist, chamber artist, and artistic director throughout the US, Israel, Hong Kong, Spain, Ireland, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Tickets are €12/10 through Music for Galway (091 - 705962, www.musicforgalway.ie ) or Opus 2, 4 High Street.
