Galway players selected for Europe

Two Galway basketball players, Eoin Rockall and Joe Tummon have been selected on the Ireland u-18 team for this summer's European Basketball Championships.

Maree Basketball Club's Rockall and Moycullen's Tummon made it into the last 12 from an initial squad of 33.

Eoin Rockall is the youngest member of the squad at 16 years of age and has championship pedigree from the u-16 European Championships in 2014. The Oranmore point guard is brother to Irish international Claire Rockall and recently represented Calasanctius College at the World Schools Basketball finals. He made his national league debut for Maree in 2015.

Though still only 18, Joe Tummon is the oldest member of the squad and is currently studying in NUI Galway. The big centre won the All-Ireland Intervarsities title with the college in his freshman year and also picked up a National League division one title with SSE Airtricity Moycullen. The Bushypark teen has played for Ireland in waterpolo and played for Ireland at the u-18 Eight Nations in 2014, while his brother Stephen also represented Ireland in basketball at u-18 level.

Ireland, coached by Joey Boylan, will play in division B at the Europeans in July and face Austria, Israel, FYR of Macedonia,  Denmark, and Iceland in their group.
