HOW IS it possible that three women, living in isolation on the Yorkshire moors, could have written some of the most powerful and passionate fiction of all time?
Brontë, a play by Polly Teale, will be performed by the Galway Actors Workshop Advanced Performance class in the Town Hall Theatre studio at 8.30pm on Wednesday May 13 and Thursday 14.
The play is set in 1845, when Branwell, addicted to drink and drugs, returns home after being fired from domestic service following an affair with the mistress of the house. As he descends into alcoholism and insanity, bringing chaos to the household, the sisters write.
Directed by Sarah O’Toole, Brontë evokes the real and imagined worlds of the Brontës, as the fictional characters come to haunt their creators.
