Neil Young tribute @ Monroe’s Live

Psychedelic Pill to play music from Young's 1968 to 1975 'ragged' glory years

PSYCHEDELIC PILL, the acclaimed tribute band to Neil Young, are coming to Monroe’s Live this week, to perform a set by the great Canadian singer-songwriter that concentrates mostly on his classic period between 1968 and 1975.

This was the era that saw Young create some of the greatest albums of all time in Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969 ), After The Goldrush (1970 ), Harvest (1972 ), On The Beach (1974 ), and Tonights The Night (1975 ), which fused raw heavy rock, with country and folk tinged acoustic music, paving the way, in the opinion of many, for grunge 20 years later. Some four decades on, they are still among the touchstone albums for many singer-songwriters.

Psychedelic Pill hail from Cork and include members of The Calvinists, who have been in The New York Times and on the cover of Hot Press, and Jukebox Gypsy who successfully toured Ireland, Britain, and Europe.

Ray Blackwell, DeBarra’s Folk Club, Clonakilty said Psychedelic Pill’s “take on Young’s collaborations with Crazy Horse captures all the passion and wig out danger of the Horse at its prime, cherry picking their best tunes and weaving them into a set that any die-hard fan would swallow whole!” Uri Kohen of Electric Cave Productions called them “utterly magnificent!”

Psychedelic Pill play Monroe’s Live on Thursday April 30 at 10pm. Support is from Keegan McInroe. Tickets are €10/7 through www.monroes.ie
