Portumna farm auction fetches nearly €13,000 per acre

James Kilcoyne auctioneers & valuers, Ballaghaderreen, had a very successful, well attended, public auction at O’Meara’s Bar & Restaurant, Portumna, last Friday, where the auction of farming lands near Portumna saw some of the lands go for close to €13,000 an acre.

The lands, which formed part of the estate of the late Frank Keane, were offered in three separate lots. Bidding, which was brisk, achieved the following results.

One lot, situated in the townland of Shanvally and comprising c8.47 acres of average quality land, made €50,000. Another lot in the same townland, comprising c7.26 acres of very poor quality lands and with poor access made €29,000. Meanwhile a third lot, situated in the townland of Sawnagh and comprising c8.62 acres of very good quality lands, made €110,000, which equates to a very impressive €12,760 per acre. This particular lot opened at €70,000 and was put on the market at €85,000; it attracted a total of 12 bids in mainly €5,000 increments.
