THE GAMES People Play, the award winning play for the “negative-equity generation” comes to the Town Hall Theatre tomorrow at 8pm. Winner of Best New Play at The Irish Times Theatre Awards, it stars Aonghus Óg McAnally and Fair City’s Lorna Quinn.
Niamh and Oisín were sold the dream - the house, the life, the children - but then austerity cuts start to take hold and there is the mounting pressure of balancing family and a career. Then, one night a series of games threatens to unravel their suburban paradise. With their marriage on the brink, can the relationship survive the night?
This modern re-telling of the Tír na nÓg myth is presented by Rise Productions and is the company’s follow-up to its international smash hit Fight Night. Written by Gavin Kostick, the play is directed by Bryan Burroughs, with set and lighting design by Colm Maher.
Speaking about the production, Aonghus Óg McAnally said: “We are so excited to now have the chance to bring The Games People Play to audiences throughout the country. The response so far has been phenomenal, people really identify with these characters – it’s almost like they’re seeing themselves up on stage. They recognise the pressures this couple are facing, because they’re facing them too. It’s close to the bone in places, but ultimately it’s a story of hope and survival.”
