Mitsubishi unveils new L200

By Padraic Deane

After nine years, and 1.3 million units of the L200 as we know it, Mitsubishi introduced the long awaited new fifth generation L200 at the recent Geneva Motor Show.

The new Mitsubishi L200 has been developed as a ‘sport utility truck’ that reaches new heights of reliability, toughness, interior comfort and maneuverability to further meet the diversifying needs of the global pick-up truck customer.

The new model features the new 2.4 litre MIVEC turbo-charged diesel engine (4N15 ), and outstanding running resistance achieves a 17 per cent improvement in CO2 engine, down to 169 g/km minimum mated with a new six-speed manual transmission.

The new 4N15 engine generates 133kw/113kw (and respective 430Nm/380Nm ) at low RPM and delivers powerful motive performance even when loaded with cargo. The variable geometry turbo charger with small turbine gives greatly improved response and provides utmost driving pleasure together with the new six-speed manual transmission and automatic transmissions paddle-shift.

New plug-in hybrid crossover concept

There was also a catchily-named concept XR-PHEV II on Mitsubishi’s stand in Geneva. It is a small crossover concept, which of course is propelled by a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mitsubishi claimed CO2 levels are "under 40g/km". But as one British journalist said – since it is a concept, Mitsubishi can claim whatever it likes.
