ISRAELI FILM-MAKER and journalist Yotam Feldman will be in Galway next week for a screening of his award winning documentary, The Lab, which examines how the military occupation of Gaza and the West Bank has become a profitable asset for Israel.
The Lab, which will be screened on Monday March 30 at 7pm in the Cairnes Theatre, NUI Galway, argues that the Israeli military occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, instead of being a financial, security, and economic burden, has become a highly profitable situation - one in which many Western governments and institutions – including the Irish Government and several Irish universities – are actually complicit.
Yotam Feldman, who will attend the screening and take part in a public discussion afterwards, has characterised this stance as “hypocritical”. Speaking in advance of the Galway screening he said: “The same governments, in Europe especially, which criticise Israel for the use of military force against civilians, for collateral damage, etc, are the same governments buying weapons from Israel, which are allowing Israel to produce new weapons, and use new weapons in Gaza."
Mr Feldman is a filmmaker and a journalist who has worked for leading Israeli newspaper Haaretz as investigative reporter, writing about issues concerning the relationship between military operations and financial profit, arms deals, and the ‘national security’ industry. He is currently conducting research about Israeli activity in Africa.
The Lab has been screened at numerous international film festivals and won the Best Debut Film Awards at the DocAviv 2013 festival.
The screening is hosted by the NUIG Palestine Solidarity Society, Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and Academics For Palestine. The screening is open to the public as well as students and all are welcome.
