Galway u-21 footballers head down the N17 on Saturday to face Mayo in the Connacht championship semi-final at McHale Park at 5pm. (Extra time if required ).
The home side has already one game under its belt with an easy victory over Leitrim in the quarter-finals.
Galway will look to team captain Damien Comer and senior players Enda Tierney and Johnny Heaney to provide leadership when it is needed most.
The u-21 squad is due to train this evening (Thursday ) and the management team will be hoping the Corofin contingent of Liam Silke, Martin Farragher, Conor Cunningham and Dylan Wall will be hale and hearty after their exploits with Corofin last Tuesday.
Other key players for the team this weekend will include Michael Day (Headford ), Eamon Brannigan (St Michael’s ), Michael Daly (Mountbellew/Moylough ), and Adrian Nolan (Killererin ).
Team selector Terry O’ Regan (St James ) is hopeful the panel will produce a match-winning performance.
“The lads have trained very hard over the past few months and the mood is top class in the squad. Mayo are at home and they have one game played, which is an advantage to them, but, we are only focusing on our own job. And we believe if we produce the football we are capable of, we can progress to the Connacht final.”
