Three years after its launch, the Peugeot 208 has a new look.
The brand’s best-selling model is about to get sportier styling, more equipment, new personalisation options, and new body colours. The range is also expanded with an upmarket GT model and GTi by Peugeot Sport, underlining the brand’s move upmarket.
The highly efficient PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines will meet the next generation of emissions standards. Notably, the new Peugeot 208 will come to market equipped with the most economical internal combustion engine in the world, consuming only three litres per 100km and producing just 79g of CO2 per km. The new Peugeot 208 will be on sale in Europe from June 2015.
Already a proven sales success with nearly one million already produced, the Peugeot 208 remains a key player in the hotly-contested small car B segment, the second largest in Europe. Its success ensured Peugeot a place on the sales podium in the B segment in Europe for 2014.
At the front, a new bumper with a fully integrated and wider grille, and thicker chrome finish, present a sharper, more muscular line. Together with the Peugeot LED light signature and new two-tone headlamps with black and chrome masks, this new identity transforms the vehicle, making it more robust looking. Rear 3D LED lamps, continue the Peugeot brand light signature and are fitted across the range.
Chrome window surrounds and chrome door mirror shells strengthen the chic and sporty nature of the model. New 16” and 17” alloy wheels are now available as options with painted, diamante or with sequential diamante or laser engraved finishes. The range of colours and paint finishes available on the new Peugeot 208 is expanded to 13 colours.
Inside, the new Peugeot 208 has new ambient white backlighting for the instrument panel, all controls, and on all trim levels. The moulded dashboard strip, on all trim levels, has new graining on the upper trim levels to give a soft touch and refined finish and an even higher quality presentation.
The large 7” touch screen, standard from level two, provides easy access to all systems; audio, navigation (optional ), telephone, vehicle information, internet. The new optional extra MirrorScreen system makes it possible to transfer the screen of a smartphone to the vehicle’s screen, to make full use of its applications. A reverse parking camera (also optional ) uses the large screen and facilitates everyday parking manoeuvres.
The new Peugeot 208 is still fitted as standard with all of the safety systems that earned it five stars in the EuroNCap tests (ESP, ABS, EBA, EBFD, etc ). This level of passive safety and the arrival of active city brake make the new Peugeot 208 one of the safest cars in the segment.
As with its 308, 508 and RCZ sisters, the new Peugeot 208 continues its move up market with the arrival of the GT Line trim level. Available in three and five-door versions with petrol and diesel engines, the GT Line is distinguished with a “equaliser” grille, gloss black grille and front fog lamp finishers, 17” diamante alloy wheels, black door mirror shells, chrome window surrounds and exhaust tailpipe, GT Line badges and red Peugeot lettering. Black and red sports seats, red stitching, leather gear lever grip, gloss black door handles, leather sports wheel, aluminium Peugeot door sill finishers and pedal trims seal the resolutely sporty nature. A GTi version by Peugeot Sport is on offer with lowered ride height, wider tracks, large 18” wheels, matt black exterior parts, bucket seats, red mats, and high performance parts developed by Peugeot Sport.
Prices and equipment levels for Ireland will be announced closer to launch.
