Special needs punk-rockers and fly-fish bait makers

Cinemobile to screen acclaimed documentaries in Athenry this weekend

A FINNISH punk band, whose members are special needs adults, and a woman who makes fly fishing bait, are the subjects of two documentaries to be screened in Athenry this weekend.

The Cinemobile is coming to Athenry, and in association with the town’s film club, it will present The Punk Syndrome on Friday at 8pm. The film follows the band, Pertti Kurikan Nimipälvät, from their beginnings to national stardom and all the fights, falling in love, touring, recording, rebelling against the mainstream they do along the way.

On Saturday ay 4pm, the Cinemobile will screen Scottish documentary Kiss The Water. In a small cottage on the northern Scottish coast, Megan Boyd makes fly-fishing bait from bits of feather, fur, silver, and gold. Such is her skill that fishing enthusiasts regard her baits as works of art and speak about her in awed terms. The film mixes fact, fiction, documentary, and interview to create a poetic insight into one woman’s work.

The films are part of the North by NorthWest – Films of the Fringe project which Cinemobile is running with cinemas in Scotland, Iceland, Finland and Norway. It is funded by the Creative Europe MEDIA Audience Development Initiative; the aim is to promote European film in more remote parts of Europe.

The Cinemobile will be parked at the Swangate car park in Athenry. Admission is free and all are welcome. For more information see www.cinemobile.ie
