HE HAS been called “a wickedly sharp observer of the human condition” by Rolling Stone, with a voice that “qualifies as one of the wonders of the folk world” according to Acoustic Guitar. This is American singer-songwriter Greg Brown.
Brown was born in the Hacklebarney section of southeastern Iowa and his songwriting, storytelling, and music are deeply rooted in that place, as well as in Christian hymns, classical music, hillbilly, rock’n’roll, country, and blues. Over the last 30 years he has regularly released albums, most notably 1985’s In The Dark With You and 2006’s The Evening Call, and worked with Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, and Shawn Colvin.
Brown is no stranger to critical acclaim, being described by the Boston Globe says is to the US “what Richard Thompson is to Britain: its most essential modern troubadour.” Galway will get a chance to see for itself when he plays Campbell’s Tavern, Cloughanover, on Friday February 6 at 8.30pm.
