HIS VOICE has been compared to “a young Tom Waits” and he is said to have “melodies many of his peers would give their left arm for”. He is Texan singer-songwriter Jarrod Dickenson.
No Depression made the above comments on the man who plays Monroe’s Live on Saturday February 7 at 10pm. The US magazine is not the only one getting excited about him. BBC Radio 2’s Janice Long has called Jarrod “an incredible talent”, Cerys Matthews praised his “brilliant songs”, and Huey Morgan compared him to Gram Parsons.
Jarrod releases his new EP An Evening In The SUN on Tuesday February 3. It features two tracks from his album The Lonesome Traveler, two tracks from his last EP, Songs From Willow St, and one previously unreleased track, ‘In The Meantime’. The EP was recorded in the “birthplace of rock ’n’ roll” - Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee - with David Ford on piano, harmonica and harmonies; and Emily Grove on backing vocals.
Tickets are available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
