Volkswagen has announced pricing and specification for the 2015 Touareg model, which it says includes significant product enhancements and price reductions over the previous model.
The new model now has a starting price of €69,675, which is a €6,430 price reduction, despite what it claims is the addition of more than €10,000 worth of equipment compared to the outgoing model.
The 2015 Touareg is visually identifiable by its redesigned front and rear. Bi-xenon headlights are now standard on all models. New rear lights are used at the back, while there are a host of new exterior colours. There is a redesigned interior, with a new range of interior colours and styles.
The TDI engines in the Touareg now have been given an SCR catalytic converter which has helped these units to reach the demanding EU6 emissions standards.
There is a new coasting function which disengages the standard 8-speed automatic transmission in order to use kinetic energy during periods where no acceleration is required and thus reduce fuel consumption further. This along with lower rolling resistance tyres and improved aerodynamics has added up to reduce the fuel consumption from 7.0 l/100km in the 204bhp version to 6.6 l/100km dropping the CO2 emissions from 184g/km to 173g/km.
The same is true of the higher power diesel, now with 262bhp up from 245bhp. This engine now has fuel consumption of 6.6 l/100km, down from 7.2 l/100km, despite the power increase.
There have been changes to the steel-spring suspension, with improvements made to make the car more agile and offer greater ride comfort.
For Ireland the car now comes with 20” Tarragona alloy wheels, Vienna leather upholstery with heated front comfort seats, Memory Pack including 14-way adjustment for the front seats, Bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED tail light assembly, tinted windows, premium Bluetooth, and Media-In for iPod/iPhone.
For those who demand more of their Touareg, there is the option of a 'Terrain Technology' pack on the Touareg for €2,630 which adds off-road suspension (raised 10mm front, 15mm rear ), front underbody guard and additional engine guard, additional stone guard body covers, rear axle mechanical differential lock, off-road speed-reducing ratio and flywheel and an increased fuel tank capacity (100 litres ).
The car is available to order now with a special offer - models bought in the first quarter of 2015 will gain a free upgrade pack.
