The lights on the Galway Memorial Tree, located at Galway Hospice, will be switched on tomorrow (Friday ) at 6pm by Mayor of Galway Donal Lyons.
Clare Quinn, who stole the show on last week’s Late Late Toy Show with her rendition of ‘Nessum Dorma’, will be the guest soloist at the event. The Kiltulla Community Choir will sing a selection of traditional and contemporary Christmas songs to set the festive spirit for the switching-on ceremony.
Everyone is welcome, and hot refreshments will be served afterwards.
In lieu of the regular sponsorship of its Christmas cards, Galway Hospice is grateful to Joe O’Toole SuperValu, Tuam; Galway Stationery; Radharc Landscaping; ; Busker Brownes; Kirby’s of Cross Street; and the Westwood Hotel for sponsoring the purchase of the Christmas tree this year.
The Galway Memorial Tree will be adorned with thousands of lights, illuminating thousands of memories and brightening the winter skies. The cost of sponsoring one of the lights on the tree in memory of a loved one is €5. This can be done online at www.galwayhospice.ie, by direct purchase from the hospice in Renmore, or by completing the form which appears in this newspaper and returning the form to Galway Hospice, Renmore Avenue, Galway.
Memorial candles can also be purchased at the hospice in Renmore throughout the festive season and placed at the base of the memorial tree.
In conjunction with the Galway Memorial Tree, the public can also write memories of their loved ones in the online Book of Treasured Memories by visiting the hospice website on www.galwayhospice.ie
