Youth Work Ireland’s Westside project and the Forum Adolescent Support Programme will both benefit from capital grants announced by the Government.
The Forum Adolescent Support Programme Galway will receive €11,377 which will allow it to purchase 11 laptops, a mobile PA system, sports equipment, a digital camera and camcorder, tables, chairs, and office equipment.
Westside Project Youth Work Ireland Galway will get €4,898 to go towards a PC, four laptops, two cameras, three cookers, a mini projector and screen, and one fridge.
The funding has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway senator Hildegarde Naughton, who said youth services “do enormously valuable work in our more disadvantaged communities”.
“The vast majority of youth projects rely on the selfless work of volunteers and on the generosity of the general public,” she said. “I am confident the money that these two Galway groups have received will help with the services they provide.”
Sen Naughton said the grant scheme remains open for applications for capital projects related to health and safety improvements to premises. She is encouraging Galway youth groups working in the sector to apply to the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
