Phil Coulter embarks on a nationwide tour this October and November, followed by three Christmas shows in December, to celebrate the release of Echoes of Home his first solo piano album in 25 years.
He will be joined by special guests Geraldine Branagan and tenor Paul Byrom.
From winning the Eurovision Song Contest with ’Puppet On a String’through scores of pop hits with the likes of The Bay City Rollers and big ballads like Elvis Presley’s ‘My Boy’, Phil Coulter’s songs have consistently hit the mark. Few songwriters can claim to have had songs covered by artists that include The Dubliners, James Last, Waylon Jennings, and James Galway.
It is now 25 years since the distinctive sound of ‘Tranquility’, featuring Coulter’s piano and orchestra, first seduced Ireland with its easy melodic charm. With record sales now counted in millions, as well as a Grammy nomination, several appearances in the White House, and sold out international tours, it has been quite a journey.
Phil Coulter is one of the enduring talents in the music business, having enjoyed success and notched hits in the 60s, 70s 80s and 90s with a tally of 23 platinum, 32 gold and 51 silver discs. One of his earliest songwriting successes ‘Congratulations’ has become one of the most performed songs in the world in the last 30 years.
His production credits include Van Morrison, Sinead O’Connor, Elvis Costello and Richard Harris, while in Ireland his successes have included Dubliners, Planxty, Paddy Reilly and the Furey Brothers. He has performed with James Galway, the London Symphony Orchestra, Nanci Griffith, The Blue Moon Orchestra, Henry Mancini, Elmer Bernstein and Quincy Jones.
