Galway Restaurant Week — a seven day culinary adventure

An initiative by the people who brought us Galway Food Festival will see the city’s restaurant owners come together to showcase the variety, quality, and standard of Galway’s restaurant scene.

Galway Restaurant Week will run from Monday November 3 until Sunday November 9, offering diners exclusive promotions, complimentary treats, and hefty discounts.

The event was born from an initiative Galway Food Festival chairperson for 2015 Heather Flaherty, head chef at McCambridges, witnessed in New York.

“Last year I was in New York for Restaurant Week and I thought the concept was great,” she said. “It's a nice way for restaurants to give something back to the community, in the form of a special offer available throughout the week, while at the same time providing incentive for people to try a new restaurant or two. Who knows, you might have a new favourite restaurant by the end of the week.”

Local farmers and food producers have welcomed the initiative by partnering with restaurants to showcase their produce in the dishes being served throughout the week.

Jp McMahon of Eat Galway, and committee member of Galway Restaurant Week, said: “Galway Restaurant Week is about celebrating local restaurants that care about the community of Galway, its people, its producers, and its suppliers. It's about celebrating the great food we produce on Galway and educating others about that.”

An array of competitions will be rolled out though the Galway Restaurant Week Facebook page, and a competition will be run throughout the week with diners encouraged to snap themselves with their food and then upload the photo to social media sites, using the hashtag #GalwayRestaurantWeek, to be in with a chance of winning one of many prizes, all sponsored by local restaurants and suppliers.
