Galway teens sought for classical music competition

YOUNG GALWAY musicians are tuning up to win a €3,000 prize to develop their musical talent as the Fr Frank Maher Classical Music Awards seeks entries for 2014.

The awards seek to showcase outstanding young musical talent in Ireland and are open to sixth year students of strings, woodwind, brass, and piano. The top prize of a €3,000 bursary will be used by the winner to attend a recognised place of tuition, a course of study in Ireland or abroad. The finalists will each receive a €250 bursary.

The closing date for entries is Thursday October 16. For more information see www.topsecurity.ie Six finalists will be selected by an independent adjudication panel to perform at the Royal College of Physicians, Dublin, in November.
