Corinthians and Shannon exchanged places in the Ulster Bank League divison 1B table after the Limerick outfit grabbed the spoils with a 30-7 win in Cloonacauneen on Saturday.
In a reverse of last season’s result, and despite struggling this season, Shannon, with the wind at their backs, applied all the early pressure and were rewarded with a Tadhg Bennett penalty.
Corinthians, however, failed to take advantage of a yellow card to Shannon flanker Aidan Butler, while the visitors extended their lead to 6-0 with a second Bennett penalty.
The home side, however, gained some momentum and were rewarded when flanker Donnchadh Phelan and veteran lock Gary Warde drove forward before outhalf Conor Murphy claimed a brilliant touchdown.
But just before the break, Shannon captain John Shine rambled in despite a possible knock-on, and Bennett added the extras for a 13-7 lead.
Shannon, with only one point to show from their last three outings, came out with all guns blazing after the restart. No 8 Lee Nicholas grabbed a second try and it was all downhill for the home side after that.
Corinthians, also with a three week break, will need to up their performance when they travel to Athlone to face Bucanneers in their next outing.
