A LONG time ago, in an Ireland far, far away - the Celtic Tiger noughties to be exact - Hilary Woods was the bassist in JJ72.
The band won fame and critical praise for their Joy Division-esque indie rock, but no sooner had they appeared than they vanished. Then, without warning, Woods re-emerged a couple of years ago with her solo album, The River Cry, which returned her to the limelight and critical attention.
Her dream-pop of mood driven melodies and intimate atmospherics was called “a revelation in terms of the depth of songwriting” by The Sunday Times, while Hotpress praised her “beguiling song-craft”.
This month, she released the EP Night, and its songs will be among those she performs at her Róisín Dubh show - which will be her debut solo show in the city - on Friday October 10 at 9pm.
