The seventh year of the Clifden Lifeboat 10k fundraising event saw up-and-coming GCH athlete Richard Farnan take a good win over the testing course in a time of 36 mins 25.
Sean Nee was second in 40.17 and Seamus Nee third in 40.22. First woman home was Lorraine O’Connell in a time of 45.58.
In Athone, at one of the top half-marathons in the country, Athenry AC athlete Jane Ann Meehan finished second, beating Leigh James by one second in a sprint finish with a time of 1.23.34, which is also a new PB. Other good Galway runs included Gearoid Rohan Athenry AC also in 1.23.34, Eoin Cotter of GCH who ran 1.25, and David Meehan Athenry AC with 1.26.34.
World championship
Jamie Fallon of Craughwell AC finished in 62nd place in a time of 55.02 , competing for the Irish team in the men’s junior race at the World Mountain Running Championships in Tuscany, Italy, on Sunday over an uphill course over 8.4km of mountain terrain.
Fixtures
The inaugural Killeeneen National School fundraising 5k Road Race will take place this evening at 7pm. The race consists of two laps of a scenic route and race HQ is at Killeeneen National School.
This year’s Brooklodge 5k takes place on Saturday near Tuam, and includes a children’s fun run commencing at 12 noon, 600 metres in length. The main event, the 5k run commences at 12.30pm.
The Marconi Half marathon also takes place this weekend, from Roundstone to Clifden, at 11am on Saturday.
