20,000 DAYS On Earth is neither a music documentary nor a concert film, it is something in-between and something other, and at its center is the towering figure of left-field rock - Nick Cave.
20,000 Days On Earth will be screened in The Eye Cinema on Wednesday September 17, followed by a live satellite event from the Barbican in London.
Directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, the film fuses drama and documentary by weaving a cinematically staged day in Cave’s life with never-before-seen verité observation of his full creative cycle - a song grows from the tiniest of ideas sketched out by Cave in his office, eventually becoming a monstrous epic performed by Cave and The Bad Seeds on stage at the Sydney Opera House.That song is ‘Jubilee Street’, arguably the highlight of Cave’s magnificent 2013 album, Push The Sky Away.
“‘Jubilee Street’ forced its way into our film,” the directors said. “We’d planned to end with ‘Push The Sky Away’ and its pertinent lyrics about rock’n’roll getting you right down to your soul; but after the band played ‘Jubilee Street’ at Sydney Opera House we didn’t stand a chance.”
The live recording of ‘Jubilee Street’ will be featured as the B-side of Cave’s new single, ‘Give Us A Kiss’. The songs from the film are available digitally, with a limited edition vinyl 10” to be released on November 10.
