Volkswagen has released pricing for the new eighth-generation Volkswagen Passat, which will go on sale here next January.
The car boasts a new design, new engines and, according to Volkswagen Ireland, comes in three trim grades, Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, with “class leading features and technologies” across the range.
The German carmaker says it will have a starting price of €27,295 for the 1.4-litre 125bhp TSI petrol model in saloon guise. Pricing for the diesel range will start at €28,940 (for the basic Trendline spec ), 1.6-litre 120bhp TDI version, with the most popular Comfortline spec with a similar engine, carrying a price-tag of €30,815. And adding a DSG transmission to this will cost €2,170 extra.
The estate line-up will start at €29,225 for the 1.4 125bhp TSI and €31,200 for the Trendline 1.6-litre 120bhp TDI, or €33,080 for the popular Comfortline version.
There will be a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines across the range. The 1.4-litre 125bhp TSI petrol is joined by a 1.4-litre 150 TSI which employs Volkswagen’s active cylinder technology, which shuts off two of the engine’s four-cylinders when not required, which has a significant fuel-saving effect. The latter starts at €35,145 in the 'Highline' trim.
The diesel engine line up consists of the 1.6-litre TDI in 120bhp (106g/km ), a 2.0-litre TDI with 150bhp (108g/km ), and a 2.0-litre TDI with 190bhp (106g/km ). All three slot in to the tax band A3, which will cost €190
Standard specification on the Passat Trendline features air conditioning, a 5-inch touch screen infotainment system, Bluetooth, an electric parking brake, front assist including city emergency brake, leather steering wheel, and the keyless engine start system ‘Keyless Go’.
The heretofore most popular Comfortline version will see the addition of alloy wheels (16-inch ), a 6.5-inch touch screen infotainment system, park distance control front and rear, cruise control, a leather multi-function steering wheel, climatronic 3-zone automatic air conditioning, front fog lights, an interior ambient lighting package and rain sensing wipers.
The new car will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show early next month (October ) and will arrive in Ireland in time for January 2015.
Volkswagen Ireland says customers can pre-order a new 151 model at dealers now and that it is planning a series of dealer-based events in November to showcase this major new model.
