AN BRONNTANAS, the Celtic-Noir thriller shot in Connemara, and which was premiered at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, is to receive a special screening and limited run in Clifden.
The film, directed by Tom Collins (Kings ) will be screened from tomorrow (Wednesday September 10 ) to Tuesday 16 in the Clifden Station House Theatre. Members of the cast and crew will attend the screening on Wednesday 10 to present the film and take part in a Q&A with the audience.
“We really wanted to open the theatrical run of the film in Galway, and this showing is a great opportunity to see the west up on the big screen,” said Tim Collins. “I showed my last big film Kings here in 2008 and the Station House is a great place to see a film.”
Fellow Producer, Ciarán Ó Cofaigh added: “A lot of local people worked on the film during the 43 day shoot, and now they can come along and enjoy seeing their hard work on the big scene.”
An Bronntanas is a contemporary thriller centring on an independent lifeboat crew working along the Connemara coast. One night they receive a distress call and discover a fishing boat, its only passenger a dead woman and a cargo of over a million Euros worth of drugs. The crew is suddenly faced with a moral dilemma – hand the drugs over to the authorities or sell them and save their struggling village?
Cinematographer Cian de Buitléir had the responsibility to get the get the sea rescue scenes just right. “They were very important scenes,” he said. “We built the boats locally and we spent days filming the major rescue. It’s very important that the film is shown where it was shot.”
The cast includes Dara Devaney (Na Cloigne ), John Finn (Homeland ), Owen McDonnell (Single Handed ), and Pól Ó Gríofa (Ros Na Run ).
