DON'T YOU Know Who I Am?, the short film written by Galwegian Olaf Tyaransen, and which was shot in Galway city, will be screened at the prestigious San Francisco Irish Film Festival.
The film, which was directed by Paul Duane (creator of hit TV shows Amber and Secret Diary of a Call Girl ) and starring Alabama 3 lead singer Larry Love, centers on a grieving rock star who comes to Galway to find some peace and respite from the world. He has been led to believe that Irish people do not care about celebrity. However he soon discovers they are very keen to spend a lot of time making him extremely aware of this fact!
Don’t You Know Who I Am? is based on Olaf's short story of the same title which was originally published in the Doire Press collection, Galway Stories. Author Irvine Welsh suggested to Olaf, an award-winning journalist and Hot Press 'Writer-At-Large', that it would make a good short film.
The film premiered at this year's Galway Film Fleadh and has enjoyed rave reviews, with The Irish Times’ Donald Clarke describing it as "a cracking little short about the nature of modern celebrity". Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh Tweeted it was "supercool".
The San Francisco Irish Film Festival was founded in 2003, and this year takes place at Delancey Street Theatre from September 18 to 20. Don’t You Know Who I Am? will be screened at the theatre on Friday 19 as part of the 'Short Stories, Tall Tales' programme.
