Vodafone Comedy Carnival line–up to be announced next week

It was a festival but this year it is becoming a carnival, and one of America’s finest comedians, Rich Hall - reputed to be the inspiration for The Simpson’s Moe Szyslak - will help launch it.

The Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway (formerly the Galway Comedy Festival ), already one of the city’s flagship festivals, is back in an expanded form this year, running to 12 days and encompassing two weekends.

The 2014 carnival runs from Thursday October 16 to Monday October 27 and the programme will be officially announced on the morning of Thursday September 11 on VodafoneComedyCarnival.com At 8.30pm that evening, there will be a special show in the Róisín Dubh featuring Rich Hall, Andrew Maxwell, and Karl Spain.

Among the highlights of the carnival itself will be the world famous Spiegeltent ‘Paradiso’. This 500 capacity venue is a 1930s European wooden tent featuring a luxurious interior including unique mirrors, leaded glass, and a velvet and brocade finish.

“We are delighted to welcome our new title sponsor, Vodafone and to announce our new dates, making this our most ambitious programme so far,” said festival director Kevin Healy. “We also want to thank our supporters at Fáilte Ireland, Galway City Council and Diageo for helping to make the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway possible and look forward to welcoming great comedians and comedy fans to the West this October.”
