Galway Taxis app now takes credit card payments

Galway Taxis has improved its mobile app to allow customers to register a debit or credit card for app bookings. This gives the customers the choice when booking a taxi to pay by cash or card.

Galway Taxis has teamed up with the global payment processing company Paymill to securely store customers’ card details and act as intermediary in the payment process. Once card details are stored through the app, they are never used again to process a payment — payments use a token key shared between the driver, the customer, and their bank. Cards are processed in real time and payments can be made without the passengers needing to have their card with them. The customer gets the chance to confirm the amount before the driver runs the transaction.

The Galway Taxis app allows customers to pre book taxis for a later time or date. All bookings are watched over by a dedicated dispatch team, and drivers can see advance bookings in the different areas of the city to make sure each taxi arrives early to each booking. All bookings made through the dispatch centre on 091 561111, online, or through the app are integrated into the dispatch system, and business and private customers can open an online account at www.galwaytaxis.biz

Online customers can book, track, edit, and amend their bookings online and, if required, they can set up an account to be invoiced on a monthly basis, all fully automated. The system is now in use for the last two years and Galway Taxis has made various changes to the system over that period to perfect it to meet the needs of the emerging smartphone market.

Chairman Fergal Cash is also working with as many local businesses as possible to promote their business inside the app. The promotions tab inside the app contains a customised page for local businesses to advertise and give away promotional prizes.

All customers who book a taxi through the office, the app, or online get a text message as soon as the driver has been assigned to their booking. This text includes the driver’s details, and customers can ring the driver if they need to give directions for out of town addresses. They also get a further text to say that the taxi is within 400m of the pick-up point, with a link to this promotions page.

Anybody interested in the Galway Taxis app promotions can contact the chairman on 091 549702 and he will be happy to promote their local business. All of the income from your taxi fares stays in Galway, unlike other taxi apps. Galway Taxis is keen to do everything possible to promote the Galway economy in these difficult times. See the coupon in this week’s Advertiser to save €5 on your taxi fare which is valid until August 31.
